My Kid Free Week – Most Likely My Last One Ever

Brian and Lachlan flew to NY to visit with his family last week and while he was gone, my sister came out to stay with me. He wanted Lachlan’s Mima and cousins to see him one last time before the twins come and we won’t get a chance to travel anymore. I say anymore because I’m really not one to enjoy traveling by plane, especially with children, its extremely stressful, nap times and bed times get messed up, and there’s SO MUCH STUFF to bring along. But once they’re older, potty trained, and can understand to be quiet in an airplane we’ll probably travel again. But that won’t be for a long long time.

There was a one day overlap before Brian and Lach left so my sister could see Lachlan for the day. I managed to get a few pics.

Anyway, Brian stayed in NY for the week. Stopping first and staying a night in Long Island to see his older brother his kids. The next day they drove to our hometown, Warwick, to visit Brian’s parents (and mine for a few minutes), and then the next day they all drove up to Buffalo to stay for the remainder of the week with Brian’s younger brother and his kids. So if you can imagine how hard it was for poor Lachlan to get any sleep because he was changing sleeping arrangements every night. He really didn’t want to sleep in the pack n play. So he ended up sleeping in bed with Brian and having lots of broken sleep and just not eating or napping so great either. He got a cold and is still full of so much snot that his cheeks are chapped from all the wiping.

Well they did have fun and Lachlan really had fun with his cousins, and I was glad that side of his family got to see Lachlan. I missed him SO BAD though! I was crying so hard the first day without him. I made Brian send me like 10 pictures everyday so I could see what he was doing.

While they were there visiting, my sister stayed with me in Colorado and we went out to eat at quite a few places I’ve been wanting to eat at CHILD FREE, which as parent, is a huge deal. For me, going out to eat is what makes me feel like a normal person, like who I was before I had kids. To go out to eat without having to pay for a baby sitter is huge, and to slowly read a menu and eat without having to entertain a child and be embarrassed at their yelling and stubbornness and scarf your food down to hurry the hell up and leave…. yea you get it. Plus, I haven’t left the house between the hours of 1 and 4 pm in nearly 2 years because of NAP TIME so it was nice to see what the world is like during those 3 hours.

My sister got to come with me to one of my ultrasounds which was pretty cool. She hasn’t seen one before and it was a good quality one too, the kind with the giant tv in the room and detailed pictures being taken for getting measurements. And I got to crochet some things for the twins.

We also did a tiny bit of shopping. “Tiny bit” mostly because I can’t walk very far without running out of breath and my back killing. I called myself “Goldilocks” having to sit in every damn chair on and bench in my sight. But we had a nice time.

I think the best part was just waking up to silence on my own, not rushing to get dressed and get Lachlan out of his crib before he climbs out and hurts himself in the mornings. Taking morning showers again, and not having to guess what he wants to eat and waste food. Ahh, it was so nice. It made me realize I’m going to have to get away by myself for a weekend sometime, stay in a hotel or something after the twins come. I don’t care where, I just know that it’s so refreshing to be by yourself and having that “me” time. It really made a difference in how I felt once he came back.

They came back on Monday and we coordinated my sister’s departure flight for around the same time as their arrival time so she could see Lach in the airport before she left to go back to NY. Also so I only had to drive to the airport once. Brian is really good at planning things like that. As soon as Lachlan saw me waving to him at the airport, he took off running towards me, his hair flying back, he put both hands to his eyes like he was doing peek-a-boo once, then twice, all with a giant smile on his face. OMG my heart exploded.

The next day I was all over Lachlan, probably smothering the heck out of him but I didn’t care.
